How it works

PNG is lossless, so simply re-saving it rarely makes it smaller. KadiTools uses color quantization instead: it finds the best palette of up to 256 colors (alpha included) and stores the image as an 8-bit indexed PNG, then compresses it with optimized Deflate settings. Screenshots, UI graphics and logos typically lose 50–80% of their weight with no visible change.

FAQ

Will I lose transparency?

No. The palette includes alpha values, so semi-transparent edges stay smooth.

When should I pick fewer colors?

Flat graphics and icons look identical at 32–64 colors and get much smaller. Photos need 256 colors — or use the JPG or WebP compressor instead.

Which library is used?

UPNG.js with pako (Deflate), loaded from jsDelivr the first time you compress.
