How it works
The video is re-encoded with H.264 (x264) in an MP4 container — the most compatible format — using a constant quality factor (CRF): higher numbers mean smaller files and lower quality. Reducing the resolution saves the most: 1080p → 720p roughly halves the size. Audio is converted to AAC. The output is optimized for streaming (“faststart”) so it starts playing before it's fully downloaded.
FAQ
How much smaller will my video be?
Phone videos (high bitrate) often shrink by 60–90% at “Balanced” quality. Videos that are already compressed shrink less.
