How it works
The PDF is encrypted with the standard PDF security handler, so every PDF reader (Acrobat, Chrome, Preview…) asks for the password before showing it. Permissions (printing, copying, editing) are enforced by well-behaved readers but are weaker than the open password: someone who can open the file can bypass them with special software. Use a long password and send it through a different channel than the file.
FAQ
I forgot the password — can you recover it?
No. The file is encrypted on your device and nobody else ever sees the password.
